ABOUT THE FOLQUEBEC TRAD FEST SHOWCASE:

4 groups where selected for this showcase:  É.T.É. - Les Tireux d'Roches - Mélisande [electrotrad] - Le Diable à Cinq.

É.T.É.

Drawing from their backgrounds in classical, jazz and traditional Quebecois music, Élisabeth Moquin, Thierry Clouette and Élisabeth Giroux have come together in 2015 to create a new and exciting group. The instrumentation of their unique and modern sonority consists of fiddle, cello, bouzouki, voice, foot-tapping and step dancing. É.T.É’s performances and creations are dynamic and modern! No matter where they go, audiences appreciate their amazing energetic style, performance complicity and their up-to-date musical style.

LES TIREUX D'ROCHES: TRAD FOLK

Since 1998, Canada’s TDR (Les Tireux d’Roches) has been electrifying crowds with their unique sound and stage performances. They have toured extensively in Canada, the U.S.A, Europe and China winning over the hearts of audiences wherever they go. In recent years they have garnered a reputation as great communicators—they always make an effort to learn the language of their current host and have fun using it on stage. Hailing from a region overflowing with creativity, this motley crew of colourful characters draws from the rich Québécois tradition while staying open to other musical influences such as jazz and rock. They play on an unconventional arsenal of acoustic instruments and the result is an explosive folk/trad party that’ll make you dance and knock your socks off!

MÉLISANDE [ÉLECTROTRAD]

Mélisande [électrotrad] offers an energetic blend of traditional music, pop and electro with a mix of acoustic and electric instruments, vocal harmonies and programming. Formed by Mélisande and her husband Alexandre ‘Moulin’ de Grosbois-Garand, the duo offers a fresh artistic proposal to the folk-world-trad music scene. Its fourth album Flash de mémoire presents a mix of traditional classics as well as covers from famous Québec artists (Paul Piché, Groovy Ardvaark, Les Cowboys Fringants, Mes Aïeux and Robert Charlebois/Gilles Vigneault). Greatly acknowledged by the critics here and abroad, the duo won a Canadian Folk Music Award and two Independent Music Award as well a being nominated at several other awards. The band performed over 250 concerts in Canada, the United States, France, Spain and Australia.

LE DIABLE À CINQ: THE DEVILS AT FIVE

Le Diable à Cinq is five multi-instrumentalists native to Ripon, in the Outaouais, whose main mission is to revive the festive evenings of traditional music in which its members grew up. Le Diable à Cinq is also a family affair, with three brothers, a cousin and a friend who share the stage with remarkable complicity. Displaying dynamism and an explosive stage presence, the five devils set the evening ablaze to the sound of energetic, warm and resolutely unifying music.
